Two JASMINE System Laboratories Opened at the Military University of Technology
These are the new Training and Educational Lab for the Automated HMS C3IS JASMINE Battle Management System and ICT nodes Training Lab.
As stated by Teldat, the aforesaid educational facilities have been officially opened on 26th November 2019 following successful completion of works carried out by the company’s engineering staff. The work also included training for the teaching staff that received the instructor credentials.
The undertaking above involved representatives of the Military University of Technology, including professor Andrzej Dobrowolski, PhD Eng. (Dean of the Faculty of Electronics), Col. professor Zbigniew Piotrowski PhD Eng. (Head at the Institute of Communication Systems), Andrzej Bajda PhD Eng. (Deputy Head at the Institute of Communication Systems) and Piotr Łubkowski (Head at the Telecommunication Systems Department) and of the Teldat company, mainly Henryk Kruszyński PhD Eng. (President at Teldat), professor Łukasz Apiecionek PhD Eng. (Director at the Innovative IT Technologies Department) and Tomasz Zalesiak MA (Director at the Department of Systems Implementation and Maintenance).
The former laboratory has received a necessary quantity of HMS C3IS JASMINE licenses and state of the art ICT node that includes a full array of military training systems embedded in portable and containerized variants of the node. The latter utilizes another node that is identical.
The newly opened labs are the first educational facilities of their kind in Poland. They will make it possible to relevantly raise effectiveness of the educational process and allow for refinement of skill in case of the current and future military personnel. A high quantity of specialized hardware and software placed at the labs in question support, in an efficient and modern manner, battle management and command processes. The aforesaid assets provide capabilities that have not been possible to obtain so far, at scale so large and in mobile operations with the use of radios. These capabilities include automation of the command processes and creating an integrated digital situational picture in real time. They also provide the user with modern and efficient communications and. The user may also, in an efficient manner, manage, configure, monitor and maintain the ICT nodes in question.
Both of these solutions have been or are delivered to the Polish military by TELDAT, the main designer and manufacturer of the nodes. The delivery of the nodes is being implemented in line with a contract signed with the Armament Inspectorate in December 2018. These solutions have been developed by TELDAT in order to meet high requirements defined by the MoD within the scope of IT security and rugged design, within the scope of weather resistance or mechanics. The components also had to meet strict emission norms. TELDAT also made use of several years of experience it had gathered over the course of developing, testing, implementing, using and perfecting of military solutions as such. TELDAD is also the manufacturer of the aforesaid HMS C3IS JASMINE system that is broadly utilized by the Polish military, in Poland and abroad.
The system in question underwent an in-depth cyber-security, interoperability and compatibility verification, and during that process it was placed alongside other systems used by the allies. It is recommended (also by NATO) and it has been listed on the AFPL (Approved Fielded Product List). The solution has met all of the PMN 2.0 (Polish Mission Network) requirements, passing the relevant tests within that scope. It is also undergoing continuous development, perfecting and verification, taking place during numerous domestic and international exercises and tests. These happened during the following operations: ANAKONDA, DRAGON, NATO CWIX and MIP WG (MIP Working Group) meetings as well.
The aforesaid ICT nodes (portable and containerized) are used for the purpose of meeting the ongoing ICT demands of the Polish military domestically and abroad. The system’s purpose is to ensure efficient command processes and operations of the elements involved. Both solutions in question form a single hardware-software kit and come under the name HMS JASMINE - automated operational-tactical level battle management system. It additionally includes at least one node mentioned above, regardless of the variant.
The main task assigned to those nodes is to secure the ICT needs of military detachments command stations at division, brigade, regiment and battalion levels and thus allowing them to function in a myriad of environmental and weather conditions.
The system is also to allow for efficient establishment of secure and encrypted ICT networks, such as the PMN 2.0 network mentioned above. It also allows the user to effectively utilize this infrastructure and to send data protected by the NATO SECRET clause at command stations of all levels developed for the purposes associated with a wartime command system and during allied operations.
The nodes may also be used for the purpose of secure data transmission (including VoIP, video and e-mail communications) and files exchange. Secondly, it can also be used for monitoring purposes with regards to the ICT system.
Furthermore, the system is to guarantee efficient operation of automated C2 and support system. In practical terms this has been achieved in case of the aforesaid HMS C3IS JASMINE laboratory.
The system should also provide a set of conditions required to create test environments for the purpose of verifying and certifying C2 systems and/or fire control systems. The laboratories also form an ICT infrastructure sufficient and necessary to carry out exercises, domestically and abroad. They also make it possible to use this kind of military equipment for the purpose of integrating the command stations with effectors and sensors. Moreover, the lab also provides a capability to design and manage the ICT networks based on those products.
Meanwhile, HMS C3IS JASMINE is tasked with supporting (making them more efficient) command processes at operational and tactical levels and the operations of individual elements at these levels. The whole process includes optimization of the command process and its phases - positioning, planning, task assignment, control. The system is also designed to carry out joint operations with heightened situational awareness and higher level of safety. This can be achieved through automated and immediate distribution of data pertaining to threats and blue force tracking. The system is capable of displaying this data on digital maps.
JASMINE also guarantees real time visualization of the operational picture (including a joint POSO picture) and BFT - Blue Force Tracking. The system allows its user to attain advantage in the ICT sphere and to eliminate data transfer delays, also when it comes to positioning of own units and vehicles such as the tactical command vehicles. JASMINE eliminates the need to create maps with positioning of those assets on paper, manually.
JASMINE also makes it possible to carry out secure operations (also with regards to processing of confidential data) within ICT structures of stationary and mobile command posts and military vehicles. It facilitates effective integration and joint operations with other systems, including allied systems, through implementation of NATO standards, including command, communications, fighting, reconnaissance and simulation standards.
JASMINE is guaranteeing automated operational data exchange at the tactical level with the use of radiolinks, including narrow band radiolinks and the original BRM protocol. It can be used as well to create an ability to efficiently manage (create, transfer, control) command communications that takes place with the use of documents, such as plans, orders, reports, combat journal and a myriad of templates.
It also guarantees data archiving, including several layers of graphics and voice recordings. This makes it possible to precisely carry out after action review and refer to actual facts. This is very useful within that regard, in real operations and in training.
