Sebastian Chwałek Becomes the Vice-Minister of Defence. Return from PGZ to the MoD
Sebastian Chwałek, Vice-President of the Management Board at PGZ will become the Polish Vice-Minister of Defence replacing Marek Łapiński, Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the MoD, announced via his Twitter account.
Sebastian Chwałek has already been working as the secretary of state at the MoD before - he was nominated to work at this position by Mariusz Błaszczak on 22nd January 2019. Back in the day he was responsible for modernization, military healthcare and he was also supervising the Polish defence industry companies.
On 30th September 2018 he resigned from his position and on 1st October 2018 he became the Vice-President at the PGZ Group. Information released by the head of the MoD would mean that after 1 year of a break Chwałek would return to the Ministry.

Beforehand the media had also reported that former Vice-Minister of Interior and Administration, Jarosław Zieliński, could also become the Deputy Minister of Defence. On 25th November this year Zieliński resigned from the equivalent position at the Ministry of Interior and Administration - at which he was working from the moment when he was first appointed, on 18th November 2015.
Chwałek is a close associate of Mariusz Błaszczak, the current head of the MoD. Following the 2015 election Chwałek became the undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Interior and Administration managed by Mariusz Błaszczak at the time. On 10th May 2017 he became the Secretary of State at the aforesaid Ministry, also becoming the Government’s Plenipotentiary for Repatriation.
At the Ministry of Interior and Administration he was dealing with the matters of public administration, supervising the Voivodes (Governors) and working closely with the local authorities. He was also dealing with legal and legislative issues and the matters related to religious denominations and minorities. Chwałek was also supervising the Ministry’s healthcare and the operations undertaken by the repatriation and citizenship department.
Sebastian Chwałek was born on 2nd May 1977 in Cracow. He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University. In 2013 he began to work on his PhD dissertation, studying at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Lazarski University in Warsaw.
