Head of the Polish Ministry of Defence, Mariusz Błaszczak has signed an agreement worth 1.65 billion zlotys last Friday, concerning the procurement of 4 AW101 helicopters. The acquisition includes training and logistics package and medical equipment. Delivery is expected to be finalized by the end of 2022.

AW101s are manufactured by the Italian Leonardo company that owns the Polish WSK PZL-Świdnik facility. The latter company acts as a Party to the agreement signed with the MoD, and that company is the venue where the agreement has been signed. The event also involved the Polish PM, Mateusz Morawiecki.

AW101s will be delivered to the Polish Navy. They will be used for ASW and CSAR missions carried out in the maritime environment. On Friday the MoD has confirmed the rumors, announcing that the value of the contract is contained in an amount of PLN 1.65 billion (more than 380 million euros).

The agreement covers acquisition of four helicopters, training and logistics package and medical equipment. The agreement does not include the right to exercise an option. The deliveries, on the other hand, are to be finalized by the end of 2022.

PM Morawiecki stated that AW101 helicopters would be a very important element of the Polish security architecture. The Polish official stressed the fact that the MoD is procuring a proven helicopter design.
