Vehicles For The Polish Special Forces - Procurement Will Start in 2017. Two Stages of the Pegaz Programme
The Armament Inspectorate of the Polish Ministry of Defence plans to carry out the Pegaz Special Forces Multi-role Vehicles procurement programme in two, separate stages. Deliveries of the vehicles from the batch which is to be received by the Special Forces and the Polish Military Police will begin in 2017, while the land forces component is going to receive the initial vehicles after the year 2022.
According to the information received from Lt. Col. Małgorzata Ossolinska, spokeswoman for the Armament Inspectorate, the Polish Army is willing to acquire 105 multi-role vehicles for the special forces within the period between 2017 and 2022. These platforms will be used by the special forces and the Polish Military Police.
According to the Technological Modernization Plan, within the period between 2017 and 2022, 105 examples of the vehicles are going to be acquired, with the target required number being defined as 280 platforms - 150 for the special forces and 130 for the military police. In the light of the fact that acquisition of the Special Forces Multi-role Vehicles for the Land Forces will start after 2023, the estimated target number of those platforms is close to couple of hundred vehicles.
Until the year 2022, 105 Pegaz [Pegasus] vehicles are expected to be acquired. Ultimately, Special Forces and the Military Police need 280 such platforms (respectively: 150 and 130). Within the period of validity of the current Technological Modernization Plan, a lesser portion of the total needs of the aforesaid armed services is going to be fulfilled.
Within the framework of the planned tendering procedure, special forces multi-role vehicles [Wielozadaniowe Pojazdy Wojsk Specjalnych (WPWS)] for the Special Forces and the Military Police are going to be acquired. Meanwhile, according to the decision made by the General Commander of the Armed Forces, the acquisition process pertaining the special forces multi-role vehicles for the Land Forces will begin, starting from 2023.
Both the Special Forces, as well as the Military Police, have a certain number of armoured vehicles of a variety of types at their disposal at the moment, thus we may expect that operational use of those platforms would be continued. Meanwhile, the Land Forces will receive the Pegaz vehicles starting from 2023, in line with the decision made by the General Commander of the Polish Armed Forces. In total, the land component is going to receive several hundred new vehicles.
The programme is currently reaching the final phase of the analytical-concept stage. Initiation of the Pegaz programme is provided for in line with a relevant request placed by the Minister of Defence. The procurement contract may be signed this, or next year, initial deliveries are expected starting from 2017.
