POLSA Acquires Space Situation Tracking Software
POLSA (Polish Space Agency) is going to acquire special Systems Tool Kit software, enabling the user to monitor and simulate the changes of the situation in space and on Earth. This type of software is very useful, as it allows the user - in an ongoing manner - to check what satellites are passing over the given territory. Information like that is particularly important for the military.
POLSA (Polish Space Agency) is going to acquire special Systems Tool Kit software, making it possible to monitor and simulate the situation in space and on Earth. The software is provided by the Analytical Graphics Inc. company. Procurement is going to be realized with an amount of PLN 1 million. The request regarding that issue has achieved a positive opinion of the finances commission, within the framework of the agency’s budgetary changes in 2015.
STK software is very useful, as it allows the user – in an ongoing manner – to check what satellites are passing over the given territory. This type of information is particularly useful for the military. STK-based simulations are also required in the process of designing new satellites. Up until now, no company or institution in Poland has been in possession of full version of this system. Only several research institutions had the limited versions at their disposal, using them for scientific research.
According to Professor Marek Baraszkiewicz, who is the acting President of POLSA, acquisition of this tool may create 500 thousand zlotys of income per year. It will also let Poland get involved in large, international space programmes.
