The Armament Inspectorate has started a market analysis in order to prepare itself for purchasing Mark XIIA IFF system for the MiG-29 fighters.

The information about beginning of the concept analysis phase means that requests for information are sent to the bidders. That procedure is to make it possible to determine possibility of acquisition of Mark XIIA IFF for the Polish Air Force and installation of these devices within the airframe of the Polish MiG-29 jet fighters. Additionally, maintenance – measurement instrumentation, maintenance equipment, spare parts and technical documentation are also to be purchased.

Polish MiG-29 fighters are currently equipped with an older Mark XII IFF system (with mode 4). Now the system is planned to match the latest Mark XIIA standard, which is capable to operate in mode 5, cryptographic capabilities of which are better than in case of mode 4.

All that means that the Polish MiG-29’s will receive both new responding devices (transponders), as well as requesting devices (interrogators). Interrogator implementation poses a challenge, since the device needs to be coupled with the Fulcrum’s Soviet made radar.

The receipt of the bids by the Armament Inspectorate is to last until October 30. 2014.
