The information on cooperation between Poland and Ukraine was released by Division General Bogusław Pacek (after retirement he became an adviser, working for the Minister of Defence) on 31st March, during a programme broadcast by the Tok FM radio station.
“We have arranged it with the Ukrainians, with their Ministry of Defence, that we would jointly collect the experiences and create conclusions related to that operation [in Donbass], together with the researchers and officers, coming both from NATO, as well as from Ukraine. Poland would play a significant role here for sure – we are interested in conclusions. It is a scientific-military project. It may be treated as a scientific initiative, because it would be prepared by the experts, who know what strategy is.”
Ministry of Defence did not disclose any details regarding the implementation of the above-mentioned cooperation. General Pacek did deny the fact that the Polish military experts would be deployed directly to the front-line. However, the fact that our “military universities are the leaders of the reforms implemented in the military education system of Ukraine” would be surely helpful here. This means that the analyses would be carried out on the basis of the knowledge possessed by the specialists working for the military universities, including the Academy of National Defence.
As it was stressed by Pacek, not only is such analysis being carried out in Poland, but also in the NATO member states. Conclusions made later are to be presented to the Minister of Defence. What is more, Pacek stressed the fact that analyses are needed at all levels: “at tactical level, at the level of company and battalion and at the operational level. Regarding the activities of both sides of the conflict”.
