NATO Supreme Commander Europe in Poland

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence Tomasz Siemoniak met with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Philip M. Breedlove. The Supreme Commander did also visit the headquaters of the Multinational Corps Northeast, which is to be reinforced according to the decisions undertaken during the NATO Summit in Wales.
During bilateral talks held on Tuesday, 13th January in Warsaw among other things matters connected with implementing of NATO summit in Newport decisions, security in Central and Eastern Europe and aspects of Multinational Corps North East, which will be prepared to the role of an organiser of defence in the region, were discussed - as the Polish Ministry of National Defence reports.
Decisions concerning the organisational structure and personnel of the Corps will be discussed by NATO defence ministers in February 2015. The officials also talked about an increased number of exercises in eastern Europe and Baltic region.
General Breedlove stressed the fact that the newly established international unit will be prepared to act in the environment featuring a wide spectrum of threats, nevertheless the operations will be focused on the collective defence activities, in accordance with Article 5. Breedlove stressed the fact that the unit based in Szczecin will be responsible for a variety of early warning tasks, which are to be executed in order to increase the degree of NATO operational awareness. In a situation of danger the Corps is to be responsible for issuing orders to some of the units which would be involved in the allied defensive operation, including potentially also the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF).
