Wisła Programme: Jelcz Trucks Contract Concluded
73 Jelcz vehicles, along with a logistics and training package, would be delivered for the special purpose elements of the WISŁA system. PLN 170,908,438 is the value of the agreement signed by and between the Armament Inspectorate of the Polish MoD and the Jelcz Sp. z o.o. company, concerning delivery of vehicles scheduled to happen between 2019 and 2022.
The agreement concerns six variants of the Jelcz vehicles: CSS 8x8 semi-trailer trucks, IFCN 4x4 trailer trucks, TS EPP transporters, TS LRPT transporters, TS EOC transporters and TS DOW transporter. The latter vehicle is going to feature Polish components of the Wisła C2 system.
The aforesaid vehicles would replace the standard Patriot/IBCS solution vehicles. These are by default supplied by the US-based Oshkosh company.
The MoD emphasized the fact that the agreement would translate into establishment of potential that is relevant for national security, with that potential being placed in the hands of the supplier. The above means that the manufacturer shall provide maintenance and operational support for the vehicles, should a crisis emerge.
“WISŁA” system would become then one of the main building blocks within the Polish IADS. The primary task assigned to this system would be to act against tactical short range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and manned aircraft, within the whole range of speeds and altitudes, which includes tactical aircraft, and UAVs.
The system would be monitoring the airspace 24 hours a day, it is to autonomously recognize the threat and be able to neutralize it within several seconds. This would allow the Polish military to obtain operational capability to protect important facilities, administration and economy-critical buildings, armed forces in the deployment areas and during a joint defence operation, in national and allied settings.
