Ukrainian Leopard MBTs Overhauled in Poland. We Know the Details

Judging by the paint scheme, the overhauled main battle tanks may come from the Canadian, or Norwegian stockpiles (a single colour green scheme). It cannot be ruled out, however, that main battle tanks coming from Poland are being repaired at Bumar as well. Head of the Polish Ministry of Defence, Mariusz Błaszczak announced the launch of overhauls back in July.

According to Belsat TV, the Bumar facility in Gliwice is currently overhauling 5 Ukrainian Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks. Apart from the Leopard 2 platform, the facility is also said to deal with maintenance and overhauls of the Ukrainian T-64 and T-72 main battle tanks.

Let us recall that Poland, within the framework of provision of the military aid for Ukraine, transferred the following vehicles: 14 Leopard 2A4s, 30-60 PT-91s, more than 230 T-72M1 and T-72Ms, including the upgraded T-72M1Rs and T-72MRs.

Poland is a framework nation in delivery of the Leopard 2 main battle tanks for one of the Ukrainian battalions, with the Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks. MBTs as such are also being donated by Spain, Canada, and Norway. It was declared that 40 main battle tanks would be delivered in total. Between 2023 and 2024 fourteen tanks procured from the German industry by the Netherlands and Norway are going to be delivered as well. Meanwhile, Germany, managing the Leopard transfer to Ukraine, is acting as a framework nation for the Leopard 2A5/2A6 MBTs. There have been some disputes between Germany and Poland, regarding the overhauls of the Leopard 2 platform, but it seems that the matters have been settled, at least to a certain extent.
