PZL Mielec will deliver two M28 aircraft for Nepal
Mielec, Poland, February 6, 2023 – PZL Mielec, a Lockheed Martin Company has been awarded with a firm-fixed-price contract for two new, commercially produced, M28 short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft. The contracting authority, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, awarded the contract on behalf of the U.S. Government (USG).
he M28 acquisition involves the Foreign Military Financing program (FMF) which provides a country-directed sole-source acquisition support in acquiring military defense equipment. The two M28 aircraft, associated aircraft training, spares package, medical equipment, Field Service Representative (FSR) services, and ferry flight service for the two M28 aircraft from Mielec, Poland, to Kathmandu, Nepal are expected to be complete by April 30, 2025. Aircraft will be configured according to the contract – one in cargo configuration and one in fixed configuration Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC). The two M28 aircraft will enhance multi-role transport capabilities for the Nepalese Army.

The aircraft is perfectly adaptable to harsh climate and diverse weather conditions and can be operated on high altitude, unprepared landing strips at sea level and high altitude locations where flights are often performed during night-time, low cloud base, rainfall or severe icing – added Janusz Zakręcki.

Nepal already owns three M28 in its fixed-wing aircraft fleet. Two of them were provided as a result of a Foreign Military Financing founds by USG in 2019.
The M28 aircraft is operated by customers worldwide from the South American tropical rain forests, through the Baltic Sea and the Southeast Asian jungles and other hardly accessible regions.
