Thanks to the dedication of a consortium formed by: Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1 S.A. [Military Aviation Works No. 1], Military Institute Of Armament Technology, and ZPS GAMRAT Sp. z o.o., another stage of field tests of the Three-stage Suborbital Rocket system has been completed. This time, in late November, a 610 mm solid fuel rocket motor was being tested. The propulsion section of the motor, and the ablation, structural, and propellant materials were all tested.

“Further field tests do confirm the efficiency of the concept adopted, while successful tests of the motor will undoubtedly contribute to the further development of rocketry expertise, not just at WZL1, but also in the case of our partners, with whom we are implementing the individual elements of the aforesaid project. We are immensely happy with the fact that the entrepreneurs, and Polish and foreign researchers, in the nearest future, thanks to our domestic technological expertise, will get the capability to launch objects and conduct research in micro-gravity conditions”, said Marcin Nocuń, President of the Management Board, General Director at WZL1.

During the tests, the motor produced more than 1,200,000 Ns of impulse, with 500 kg of propellant. The field tests of the first Polish 610 mm rocket motor ended up in a success, confirming the efficiency of the technologies used. Another milestone has been achieved for the project.

The assumptions adopted for the project of a Three-stage Suborbital Rocket include the development and production of a three-stage, recoverable suborbital launch vehicle. The main objective is to carry out a demo flight above the Kármán line, to an altitude of 100 kilometres, with up to 40 kilograms of payload. The initiative is co-financed with the use of funds provided by the European Regional Development Fund, within the framework of the Intelligent Development 2014-2020 Operational Programme, based on the Fast Route: “Space Technologies” competition, organized by the National Centre for Research and Development.
