“Main Strategic Programme” Needed By The Polish Space Sector
Andrzej Banasiak, Thales Alenia Space Polska general director, in his interview for Space24.pl referred to the current situation of the Polish space industry which, in his opinion, has reached the first stage of the path leading towards industrialization.Centralization and further development of the space industry could be facilitated by a main strategic programme, the goal of which would be e.g. to develop own satellite. “There is a need of having a main strategic programme which would centralize the efforts for some specific purpose, and it seems that a need of having own satellite – Earth Observation or research satellite – is justified” - as Andrzej Banasiak says.
During an interview for Space24.pl Andrzej Banasiak, General Director of the Thales Alenia Space Polska company, referred to the current stage of development achieved by the Polish space sector: “Polish space sector entered a very interesting stage of development, as it entered the initial path of this process. Here, we are witnessing optimism and possibilities, stemming from the prior successes of science and research sectors, while the space sector enters the first stage of the industrialization process. At the current stage, we are in need of integration at the political, governmental, investment-related and strategic levels.”
According to Thales Alenia Space Polska Andrzej Banasiak, a large strategic programme, such as own satellite, could have a positive impact on development of the Polish space sector: “At the moment, the space industry is quite fragmented. There is a need of having a main strategic programme which would centralize the efforts for some specific purpose, and it seems that a need of having own satellite – Earth Observation or research satellite – is justified, particularly in the light of the existing needs of the public administration or the Polish Ministry of Defence” - as Andrzej Banasiak says.
Thales Alenia Space Polska General Director also referred to the benefits brought to the Polish Space Sector, thanks to the membership in the group of nations working together with the European Space Agency:“This is an enormous opportunityfor the Polish industry. Firstly, we have access to the space sector which, in some way, is organized in an orderly manner. The European Space Agency has long-term, 20-30 years of plans pertaining the growth of the European space sector, and at the moment it supports the Polish industry through provision of dedicated means, dedicated solely and exclusively for the Polish industry” - as we were told by Andrzej Banasiak, who added that “the European Space Agency does a lot, to support the Polish industry.”
