Agro Show: Satellite Solutions for Precision Agriculture Presented During The Largest Agricultural Exhibition in Poland
Possible applications of satellite technologies in precision agriculture were an issue presented by the Astri Polska company during the Agro Show event held in Bednary, near Poznan, between 22nd and 25th September. The promotional activities were organized as a part of the E-Knot project, the goal of which is to enhance GNSS-related cooperation between the scientific, industrial and R&D centres. Agro Show, in the meantime, is the largest agricultural expo organized in Poland.
Satellite technologies have been used, successfully, by the farmers all around the world, since many years. The above concerns both the GNSS, as well as the data gathered through collection of satellite imagery. Thanks to fusion of the two aforesaid technologies, the farmers may optimize the agricultural production. This is exemplified by enhancement of the fertilization effectiveness, or of the crops assessment. Furthermore GNSS also makes it possible to introduce automation of the utilized agricultural vehicles.
Utilizing the satellite technology in precision farming in Poland is not a new thing. The domestic market has become an arena already, for the first service providers within that field. Astri Polska company provides satellite imagery, e.g. for the SatAgro company.
A promotional campaign run by Astri Polska is organized within the scope of the E-Knot project, the goal of which is to establish strong GNSS collaboration between the industry, academia and R&D facilities. The E-Knot project is being financed by the European GNSS Agency (GSA), within the framework of the EU “Horizon 2020” programme.
The participation in the Bednary expo is not the first event concerning the agricultural domain organized within the framework of the said project. In June this year Astri Polska was the initiator if the event that accompanied the “Agriculture for Life – Life for Agriculture” conference, organized by the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. The event covered the options of using the satellite technologies in agriculture within the territory of Romania, offering beneficial conditions for such activities, as farms feature vast cropland areas.
