Korean Media: A Polish-Korean Consortium Producing Tanks to be Launched Soon
According to the Yonhap agency, this week Lee Jong-sup, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Korea, will visit in the United Arab Emirates and Poland, to hold talks with his counterparts and strengthen industrial cooperation.
According to Yonhap, on Wednesday Minister Lee is to arrive Poland and meet the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak, the visit is expected to last three days. Both parties are to review the progress of the contracts for the purchase of military equipment, including K2/K2PL main battle tanks and 155 mm K9A1/K9PL self-propelled howitzers, worth about USD 12.4 billion.
Prior to the talks, representatives of both countries will take part in the signing ceremony of the contracts for the creation of a consortium whose task will be the production of K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers in Poland, as agreed last year. Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa will form this consortium with Hyundai Rotem in the case of K2 tanks and Hanwha in the case of K9 howitzers. The assumption is to design Polonized variants marked as K2PL and K9PL.
