Andrzej Duda’s Speech At The UN: “Let’s create a world based on the “strength of the law”, not on the “law of the strength”.
Andrzej Duda, the President of Poland, made his speech during the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. The main issues covered by his speech included law and peace, both of which constitute a cornerstone of the problem solving process in the modern world. Polish President condemned the use of force and aggression in the international relations.
“Peace and law - two words, without which co-existence of nations, ethnic groups or those whose religions are different, is unimaginable. Peace and law - terms that are beautiful, important, but very brittle, that need to be taken care of, than need to be - without any interruptions - treated well. We, the Poles, know it perfectly, that peace cannot be taken for granted”. Andrzej Duda began his speech at the General Assembly session of the UN with the words above.
The President of Poland stressed the role of the law in the process of resolving the international conflicts, and he condemned the use of force and aggression. Here, the history came into play. Duda referred to the World War II, emphasizing the tragic consequences of that event, for Poland and for its citizens.
Andrzej Duda also referred to the current situation in the eastern part of Ukraine and in the Middle East, noting that the situation of the religious minorities, especially the Christians, is tragic within these areas. The President’s speech also included a fragment concerning the continuation of the works related to effectiveness of operation of the UN Security Council which, in its current shape, due to the vetoing right granted to its permanent members, is facing a deadlock situation, within the scope of providing solutions to the most burning issues related to the international situation.
Andrzej Duda also recalled the fact that the privilege of being a permanent member should be tied with an obligation of undertaking the actions which would be compliant with the basic principles governing the activities undertaken by the UN - including the struggle for maintaining the international security. The speech made by the Polish President ended with a strong, clear message: “Let’s create a world based on the “strength of the law”, not on the “law of the strength”.
