Cooperation Between PGZ and Rolls-Royce Takes Shape

Conclusion of the Agreement by and between PGZ S.A. and Rolls-Royce is a result of numerous meetings and negotiation process, concerning the areas, within which the cooperation between the companies could potentially emerge. The document has been signed by the President of the Management Board of the Polish Armaments Group, Arkadiusz Siwko and President of the Management Board of the Rolls-Royce International company (Central and Eastern Europe), Paul Kaye.

We are starting cooperation, the profile of which is long-term. It is going to cover as many facilities in Poland, as possible. We are convinced that this cooperation would be fruitful, especially when it comes to our plants in Poznan. Both, in case of the Military Automotive Works, as well as in case of “Cegielski”. We count that effect of a synergy would take place here. But we are also going to look for prospects of collaboration between other facilities too. Rolls-Royce is a company with great amount of experience, when it comes to manufacturing military and civil engines. We are counting on technology transfers, which, to a significant extent, would expand our options of taking further steps.

The framework agreement mentioned above paves the way towards cooperation between PGZ S.A. and Rolls-Royce, within the following areas: design, procurement, maintenance, servicing and repairing of the products and systems manufactured by both entities. Research is expected to be initiated in the following sectors: maritime sector, military and civil aviation, military and civil propulsion system and in the area of energy industry.

As it was stressed by the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Development, Jadwiga Emilewicz, cooperation with the British company is compliant with the plans of the Ministry which, in a peculiar manner, is trying to support investments, the purpose of which is to utilize the expertise which remains at hand of the Polish engineers, and intellectual potential and resources available in Poland. Not only should particular emphasis be placed on inclusion of the production entities in the Agreement, as R&D facilities should also make their contribution to the collaboration in question.

This agreement is perfectly suited to become a part of the elements of the “Strategy for responsible development”. (...) Why Rolls-Royce? The Polish pilots have been testing the Rolls-Royce products since 1940, with great successes, not only for Poland, but also for the United Kingdom. Hence, this cooperation has very deep roots. We are also happy, as this is the area, within which we are in possession of significant and very pronounced competitive advantages. Thus, we expect a lot from that agreement.

The collaboration between the Rolls Royce and PGZ S.A. will involve companies belonging to the Rolls-Royce Sp. z o.o and PGZ S.A. entities, including: Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. based in Poznań [Military Automotive Works], Stocznia Remontowa „Nauta” S.A. [Nauta Shiprepair Yard] based in Gdynia, MS Towarzystwo Funduszy Inwestycyjnych S.A. [MS Investment Fund Association], Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Centrum Techniki Morskiej S.A. based in Gdynia [Research and Development Center - Center for Maritime Technology], and Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia Sp. z o.o. company.

The document signed only defines the general outline of collaboration, which is to be precisely determined within the scope of specific tasks and projects. President of the Management Board at the Rolls-Royce International Company, Paul Kaye, noted that not only should production and expansion on the Polish market be the goal, as this should be complemented by joint creation of products which could be sold to the third countries. Polish facilities and research facilities are to become a part of production, supply and development chains of the Rolls-Royce company.
