Construction Works Related To The US Base in Redzikowo, Poland, Scheduled To Begin In The Summer. “USD 300 million in contracts”

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers informed that works related to another element of the Aegis Ashore air defence system are going to begin in the summer, this year. Within the framework of the 3rd phase of this programme, the Redzikowo Air Base near Slupsk is going to become a home for the land component of the US missile defence system. The base is going to be equipped with the SM-3 missiles.  The value of the agreements related to the initiative is defined as an amount of up to USD 300 million. The base is going to reach its full operational capability by 2018.

U.S. Army’s Corps of Engineers informed that works related to another element of the Aegis Ashore air defence system are going to begin in the summer, this year. Within the framework of the 3rd phase of the European Phased Adaptive Approach programme, the Redzikowo Air Base near Slupsk is going to become a home for the land component of the US missile defence system. The base is going to be equipped with the SM-3 Block II A missiles. The official reason for the fact that this infrastructure is being established, stems from a necessity to protect the United States of America and the European NATO member states from the ballistic missiles, which are being developed in the Middle East. The base is expected to reach its Full Operational Capability by 2018. 300 US soldiers are going to be stationed within its premises. 

USACE announced that the value of the agreements to be signed, in connection with the aforementioned investment, is defined as an amount of up to USD 300 million. The initial agreement, with a value of USD 100 to 200 million, is going to cover the cost of construction works related to the missile-related infrastructure. This contract is expected to be concluded in February this year.  The second agreement is going to have a value between 25 and 100 million dollars, and it would cover the construction works regarding the accommodation premises for a group of 300 US Navy members, serving at the facility. In order to present the options of related to participation in the aforementioned tenders, USACE organized a dedicated conference at the beginning of December 2015, in Słupsk. According to the data published by the US Army, the event involved more than 80 companies interested in being involved in the construction works pertaining the US base. 

At the same time, the Americans informed that the second phase related to the construction works pertaining the Aegis Ashore system land component hass been completed in Desevel, South Romania. There, a battery of SM-3 Block IB missiles is stationed.
