British Challenger 2 tanks and Warrior APCs are currently present within the Żagań-Świętoszów firing range. The vehicles will take part in the “Black Eagle 2014” exercise.
The British Army units which are stationed in Poland have been selected out of the 12th Armoured-Mechanised Brigade of the 3rd Armoured Division. The task force will consist of ca. 1300 soldiers. Polish elements equipped with Leopard 2A4 tanks, BMP-1 APCs and self-propelled 2S1 Goździk howitzers will also be involved in the exercise – according to Lt. Col. Artur Goławski from the General Command of the Armed Forces.
According to the information which had been released earlier, soldiers from 6th Air-Assault Brigade and 25th Air Cavalry Brigade were also to take part in the exercise. British Army units will stay in Poland until mid-December this year, being involved in the Karakal’14 exercise.
Information regarding the Black Eagle exercise taking place in Poland, involving a heavy battalion combat group of the British Army, has been initially published at the end of July this year. The exercise has been organised within the scope of NATO activities related to the Ukrainian crisis. US Army element with M1A2 Abrams tanks and Bradley APCs is also stationed in Poland at the moment.
