Black Eagle Exercise Starts in Poland

Today the Black Eagle 2014 exercise has officially begun. The event will involve British Army’s heavy battalion combat group, which is equipped with  Challenger 2 tanks and Warrior APCs. Elements of the Polish 11th Lubuska Armored Cavalry Division are also involved in the exercise.

Black Eagle exercise has been scheduled to begin on 3rd November at 3 PM, in Żagań Karliki field training center. The event will last for 3 weeks, as the 11th Division Reports. It will involve 1300 British soldiers using Challenger 2 tanks and Warrior APCs.

The Polish Army will select elements that are under the command of the 11th Lubuska Armored Cavalry Division, which are equipped with Leopard 2A4 tanks and BMP-1 APCs. Armoured and mechanised elements will receive support from 2S1 Goździk howitzers and soldiers from 6th Airborne Assault and 25th Air Cavalry Brigades.

The British deployment equipped with Challenger tanks and Warrior APCs, in accordance with the information released earlier is to stay in Poland till mid-December this year. Smaller units of British Army are also involved in the Iron Sword 2014 exercise, which takes place in Lithuania. The British also participated in the Anakonda exercise in Poland. Will to carry out the Black Eagle exercise involving the British battalion combat group has been first expressed at the end of July this year.
