Bartłomiej Zając, Director of Development and Member of the Board at HSW S.A. told us, during the MSPO Kielce defence exhibition, that Huta Stalowa Wola, along with its partners, is facing a serious challenge of attaining proper ballistic and mine protection levels, with simultaneous provision of amphibious capabilities for its products.
As Zając stated, Huta Stalowa Wola is trying hard to complement the PGZ’s offer addressed to the Polish Ministry of Defence, adding the tracked variant of the Rak mortar to the offered array of products. The representative of the HSW company stressed the fact that mortar in this variant is a completely indigenous solution, fitted with a 350 HP Power-Pack. The Rak mortar, in its version based on a tracked platform, features a turret module which is identical to the one used in case of the wheeled variant. This year, the company concluded a contract, covering the expected procurement of 64 examples of the 120 mm mortars, based on the Rosomak APC.

The offer presented during the MSPO event also included the 155 mm self-propelled Krab howitzer, based on a chassis which is partially a result of the domestic effort, featuring Polish elements such as the filtering-ventilating system or the power generator. Mobility of the howitzer is enhanced by a 1000 HP powerpack. HSW also presented the Baobab Scattered Mine-Laying Platform, dedicated to be used by the engineering units. As it was stressed by the HSW’s representative, the company is involved in a dialogue with the Ministry of Defence, covering the issue of potential procurement of such equipment.
Nonetheless, Zając also emphasized the fact that the effort related to development of a new, amphibious IFV is one of the most important projects pursued by the PGZ companies. The vehicle is being designed and developed within the framework of a programme pursued by the National Centre for Research and Development. The aforesaid design is to be created in Poland in its entirety, and it is to meet all of the requirements defined by the Polish Ministry of Defence for the domestic industry.
