Polish Army Procures over 6 Thousand Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifles

Yesterday we informed that the Polish government signed an agreement on procurement of Carl Gustaf M4 recoilless rifles. On 5th March the Armament Agency released information on the number of weapons that are to be procured by the Armed Forces.
According to the Armament Agency, the agreement pertains to the procurement of over 6 thousand Carl Gustaf M4 anti-tank weapons, along with several hundred thousand rounds of munitions, including AP, AP-Frag, HE-Frag, HE, multi-purpose, smoke, illumination, training, inert, and simulation projectiles.
The recoilless rifles would come with modern FCD558 sights with a ballistic computer unit enhancing the accuracy, also in long-range settings. The whole agreement is worth PLN 6.5 bn. The CG M4 acquisition is going to make it possible to entirely replace around 2 thousand legacy RPG-7 systems operated by the Polish Armed Forces. As a result of this procurement, the inventory of the Polish military would become saturated with modern anti-tank weapons.

This is yet another acquisition like that, following a contract concerning 10 thousand light M72 EC Mk 1 single-use systems. The requirements and demand are much higher, considering the upcoming years, but these purchases are a solution that addresses the inventory shortages in the Polish Armed Forces within that scope.
Manufacturing of munitions for the CG M4 weapons in Poland, license-manufacturing of the M72 system, and then domestic development and launch of manufacturing of proprietary anti-tank weapons (both single- and multiple-use) should come next.
