Poland Has Transferred Two Armoured Brigades' Worth Equipment to Ukraine

Minister Michał Dworczyk was taking part in a conference covering the topic of rebuilding Ukraine, organized by the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP), and the Warsaw Enterprise Institute. Poland has delivered more than 250 main battle tanks to Ukraine - this equipment is enough for two, complete armoured brigades, Minister Michał Dworczyk announced during the event. He noted that Poland has been the leader in providing Ukraine with that broad spectrum of support.

That speaks volumes to the scale of Warsaw's involvement in Supporting Kyiv, but declarations as such are not surprising. The first, large lot of T-72 main battle tanks was delivered to Ukraine by Poland in early 2022. President Andrzej Duda told "Bild", in June 2022, that Ukraine had received more than 240 main battle tanks, including the standard T-72M/M1 vehicles, and the upgraded T-72 M1Rs as well.

Duda also admitted that more than 100 armoured vehicles had been sent to Ukraine as well. Further deliveries, as PM Morawiecki declared, included 60 main battle tanks, including modernized PT-91 MBTs, and 14 Leopard 2s. These happened in early 2023. We also know that BWP-1 IFVs were also being supplied to Ukraine this year. Ukrainian 22nd Mechanized Brigade operates vehicles as such, sporting the Polish camouflage scheme, along with the Twardy main battle tanks. Tallinn Declaration signed in January also mentioned Poland transferring 42 BWP-1 vehicles.

Considering the fact that a standard Ukrainian Armoured Brigade structure (before the war) included three MBT battalions (90-120 main battle tanks), and a single mechanized battalion (30-40 infantry fighting vehicles), one may conclude that the declaration made by Minister Dworczyk is on the safe side. Poland has also been delivering support assets for the Ukrainian Army brigades, including the Gvozdika howitzers. Not to mention the Krab howitzers, received by artillery brigades (one level higher). In total, Ukraine received more than 300 Polish main battle tanks.

Back in April, the Polish Ministry of Defence announced that Poland has provided Ukraine with military aid worth EUR 2.2 bn. Also in April, Minister of Finances Małgorzata Rzeczkowska said that the value of Polish aid for Ukraine is 5 times higher, equivalent to 2% of the Polish GDP.
