The Patroller drone is based on the airframe of the Ecarys ES15 motor-glider. The UAV is capable of carrying out operations with a duration of even 20 hours, with cruising speed at the level between 100 and 200 kilometres per hour. As the manufacturer stresses, this type of UAV is capable of carrying 250 kilograms of payload, including a variety of sensors (optronic devices, radars, electronic reconnaissance sensors etc.).
At the moment, the Patroller drone is going through the certification process, the aim of which is to make it possible for this UAV to conduct sorties within the French airspace. Tests of the systems, which are to make it possible to track and identify the targets by simultaneously using the synthetic aperture radar and the optronic devices, are scheduled to happen in July.
Sagem informed that it is going to create a “Patroller cluster”, gathering ca. 25 businesses involved in the development programme. Sagem company cooperates, inter alia, with the Selex company which provides the radars and electronic equipment. Secondly, the German Ecarys/Stemme company is also involved in the programme, delivering the fuselage.
In the basic assumption, creating the cluster would increase the competitiveness of the Sagem offer, both within the French, as well as within the foreign markets. Patroller drones are dedicated for the French Army, however, they are also being offered for the Armed Forces of Poland.
Sagem additionally signed a cooperation agreement with the DCI company. The aim of the memorandum is to create a joint reconnaissance system utilizing the Patroller drones and the DA 42 aircraft equipped with Sagem Euroflir 350 or Euroflir 410 observation systems. The agreement is to make it possible to create a reconnaissance system that may be used both by the armed forces and uniformed services, as well as the users from the private sector.
