First Elements Of The NATO Spearhead Arrive in Poland
NATO has just begun the Noble Jump Exercise, the aim of which is to deploy the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) elements (so called “Spearhead”) in Poland.
On the first day of the training activities (on Tuesday, 9th June), 8 transport aircraft carrying elements of the 1st German-Dutch Corps landed in Babimost. This unit is responsible for commanding the temporary quick reaction force this year. According to the NATO Media Information Centre, the deployed elements of the corps constitute an organizational group, the task of which is to prepare the location for arrival of the main force.
Scope of the Noble Jump exercise involves deployment of ca. 2100 troops of the VJTF to Poland. The soldiers will be transported via airlift or land transport – with the use of railways and roads. Training within the Żagań firing range is another element of the scheduled exercise. This is the first exercise in history, the aim of which is to deploy the “spearhead” forces in line with the assumptions made during the Newport NATO Summit.
The operation is going to involve units from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the US. The Polish Army elements – including an element equipped with the Leopard 2A4 tanks; Polish Air Force F-16 fighters and units of the Polish Special Forces and Military Police – are all going to be involved in the exercise.
