Changes in the Ottokar-Brzoza Tank Destroyer Programme: “Domestic Manufacturing of the Missiles”

Ottokar-Brzoza is a new tank destroyer programme. PGZ-Ottokar consortium is the prime contractor in the undertaking, tasked with delivering the new platform for the Polish Armed Forces. The said platform is to be based on the Waran multi-role vehicle and make use of the Topaz automated fire control system.

First, the new vehicles would be received by the 14th Anti-Tank Regiment which currently operates BRDM-2 and Malyutka ATGMs, alongside Spike-LR missiles integrated on portable launchers, transported by Rosomak APCs and Humvees. Let us add that the programme is aimed at the procurement of a complete „fire module” that would also include Waran-based command and support vehicles.

During a press briefing Rafał Poradka, Director of the Armoured and Automotive Projects Bureau at the PGZ Group, mentioned changes that the Ottokar-Brzoza programme undergoes. Even though Brimstone ATGM was preliminarily designated as the primary weapon for the tank destroyer, talks are still underway, with several foreign partners, on delivery and license manufacturing of ATGMs. The heavy ATGMs for the prospective tank destroyers are expected to be domestically manufactured.

During the briefing, the estimated value of the Ottokar-Brzoza tank destroyer programme was unveiled: PLN 10.471 bn. The above probably means that the scope of the Ottokar-Brzoza programme is quite broad and that it would entail deliveries of major quantities of equipment and munitions, and also a consequential establishment of industrial potential.
